ACUPUNCTURE AND HERBS FOR TREATING COLD AND FLUCold and Flu season is upon us. Traditional Chinese Medicine include Acupuncture and Chinese herbs which have been used for thousands of years to treat many ailments including the treatment of cold and flu symptoms. Acupuncture points are selected based on sign and symptoms and patient's body type

and state of health, herbal formulas are frequently prescribed to boost immunity and balanced body's energy and to speed up recovery. 

In Chinese Medicine, colds and flu are considered external pathogens invading the body. when our body's immune energy(qi) is strong, we are able to fight off these pathogens, but when the body's qi is compromised, we are more susceptible to these pathogens.

To keep our qi strong during the flu season, it is important to:

- eat a healthy diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables

- cut out sugar, corn syrup which can lower immunity

- wash hands frequently

- Get sunshine to take supplement vitamin D3

- Receive Acupuncture treatments to boost body's qi

- For preventative purpose, it is important to include these foods/herbs to our diet to boost immunity.

         mushrooms (specially shitaki and reishi), garlic, ginger, onions, and turnips

Acupuncture treatments for treating cold and flu might include: needling of certain acupuncture points, moxa application of acupuncture needle or points, and cupping treatment to breakdown phlegm build up in the lungs.

Herbal formulas which are frequently are used in treatments of cold and flu include:

Si Jun zi tong, bu zhong yi qi tang: to boost immunity

Yin qiao san and ge gen tang, and gui zhi tang: to release exterior to fight off pathogens.
