Ovulation disorder include the followings:

PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that affects 5-10% of women of childbearing age. PCOS is associated with: irregular menstrual cycles and anovulation (no ovulation), abnormal hair growth or loss, abdominal obesity, elevated insulin levels, elevated testosterone levels (which has a negative effect on egg quality), polycystic ovaries, dark patches of velvety skin on neck, arms, breasts or thighs, acne, and infertility. Studies have shown that both Acupuncture and electro-acupuncture can improve menstrual frequency, induce ovulation and reduce androgen levels therefore improving egg quality. Some studies have shown positive results in inducing ovulation and menstruation and lowering androgen levels in women with PCOS.

Premature Ovarian Failure (POF)

Premature ovarian failure is the loss of ovarian function and estrogen production in women under the age of 40. POF has a negative impact on fertility, but also lack of estrogen can cause other health issues such as increase cardiovascular problems, osteoporosis and many other health issues. Approximately, 1 in every 1000 women between the ages of 15-29 and 1 in every 100 women between the ages 30-39 are affected. Although the cause of POF is not known, one theory suggest that these patients have less than normal amount of follicles and/or loss follicles at a higher rate than average, another theory suggest that POF could be an autoimmune problem where body’s defense system attach ovaries causing higher follicular loss.

POF is often called premature menopause; although the symptoms may be similar, the conditions are quite different. Natural menopause occurs in late 40s to early 50s when women start having irregular menstruation and eventually the cessation of menstruation. Women with POF have irregular menstruation they may skip their period for a few months and then have a normal cycle for a few months. Other symptoms of OPF include, hot flashes or night sweats, insomnia, mood swings, vaginal dryness, loss of energy, diminished libido, painful intercourse and bladder control problems. Women with POF have elevated FSH level ( >40 mlU/ml), but some of these women continue to ovulate and have the capability to achieve pregnancy.

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine have been shown to be effective at treating the symptoms associated with POF, such as elevated FSH, night sweats, vaginal dryness and insomnia, and deficient uterine lining. If you have been diagnosed with POF, acupuncture and Chinese medicine may offer a natural, safe, and effective option.

Did you know that acupuncture can improve your chance of pregnancy? Not only can it help with pain management, digestive problems, studies have shown that can also improve fertility. It is a wonderful option for those that are looking for a natural way to promote their fertility potentials, using the skilled Los Angeles fertility specialist, acupuncture can help to improve your chances of getting pregnant.

A Look at Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been in practice for thousands of years, and its use has been documented as far back as 3000 years ago. The knowledge of this amazing healing art was brought to the Western world in the 1600s by Jesuit monks, and it became fairly widespread in Europe. However, it has only become truly popular in the United States since the late 1970s.

Acupuncture works by stimulating the qi (chi) of specific points which are located on pathways or meridians all over the body. The blockage of qi in these meridians can cause pain and ailments, the acupuncture stimulation can help to eliminate the blockages and free up the pathways to ensure a smooth flow of qi. There are more than 400 points on the body where the needles can be inserted, but depending on your diagnosis, only 10-15 needles are inserted in one treatment.

Acupuncture for Pregnancy

Acupuncture can improve fertility by different mechanisms:

Improve the function of the ovaries to produce better quality eggs. Regulate hormones to produce larger numbers of follicles. Increase blood flow to the Uterus and Ovaries therefore increasing both Ovarian Sensitivity to gonadotropins and the Uterine Lining for implantation. Relax the patient to induce parasympathetic nervous system dominance. Lessen many of the unwanted side-effects of ART treatment. Mitigate the downstream effects of IVF stimulation in the uterine environment to enhance implantation and ongoing pregnancy rates. Decrease miscarriage. Improve semen densities in male factor infertility Enhance conception in ART cycles: IUI, IVF. Promote a healthy ongoing pregnancy without complications, and a healthy post-partum period.

Studies have shown that by using acupuncture you can improve your pregnancy rate. In one study done in Germany in 2002 showed that 42.5% of the women who received acupuncture treatment in conjunction with IVF treatments got pregnant, while only 26.3% pregnancy rate was reported for women who underwent IVF treatment without acupuncture. Other studies which have been done in recent years have also shown that acupuncture can improve pregnancy rate; especially if you are working with a Los Angeles fertility specialist to do IVF treatments.
